The Four Counties Classic (FCC) is a free gathering for all pre-1990 classic cars. The gatherings take place from 9.30am to noon on the first and third Saturdays of every month throughout the year at The Red Barn at Lingfield.

For those who need sustenance, The Red Barn serves food and beverages from 11am and may in time open earlier for breakfast.

The event is a static gathering in the midst of some wonderful driving roads though the scenic North Downs. When the weather is kind we often have as many as 130 cars in attendance. One reason for the success of the gathering is its geographical location close to the borders between four counties. We have regular members who come from Surrey, Greater London, Kent and Sussex. There are probably more classic cars in these four counties than anywhere else in the country – and therefore the world.

7 Shelsey Walsh Autojumble New date
Here at Shelsley Walsh, we are delighted to announce our first ‘Autojumble’. It’s been a difficult year for all of us with limited running last year and it’s important that we take the Club and the Hill in a commercial direction that will guarantee that motorsport can continue here for future generations. Mind you, ‘The Hill’ has survived two World Wars, Spanish Flu, the Great Depression, at least six recessions and some increasingly unusual climatic events, so I expect it will dust off a mere Global Pandemic in short order.

CENTENARY OF OWSLEBURY - WINCHESTER BUS SERVICE

 SATURDAY 11th SEPTEMBER 2021

As part of Heritage Open Days, a very special event is planned for Saturday 11th September to mark the centenary of one of the first motor bus services in Winchester and also the original vehicle which was used to run it.

It is understood that a bus service between Owslebury and Winchester was started in 1921 by a Mr Dovey using a 1913 Ford Model T which had been converted by a firm in Barton Stacey in that year for use as a bus. It was typical of the motorisation of the carrier services that provided links between outlying communities and Winchester. Eventually it ran regularly before being taken over by another operator, and from 1955 by King Alfred.

Remarkably, the original Ford Model T still survives in a roadworthy condition, and its present owner has agreed to bring it from Buckinghamshire to Winchester for this event. On Saturday 11th September it will form part of Friends of King Alfred Buses’ display of historic buses and coaches at the Cattle Market car park between 12:00 and 16:00 on this day.

There will be a special free vintage bus service from Owslebury starting at 11:30 and 13:30 returning at 13:00 and 15:00 using a 1950s King Alfred double deck as well as half-hourly services between the Broadway and the Cattle Market.

Further details on FoKAB’s website, www.kingalfredbuses.org.uk

Arrangements may be subject to change in the light of any emerging ‘COVID Secure’ requirements or other unforeseen circumstances.

As the road map to recovery eases, the road to Dorchester becomes a stronger possibility. After an absence in 2020 WHOTT has made arrangements to stage this event again on 15th August 2021. Understandably some may be hesitant in attending, either as a static exhibit or in service. Even in service we shall probably have to restrict in number the passengers carried and observe alternate seating. However, there is a sense of longing to have our vehicles back on the road and to aim for some semblance of normality. WHOTT will ensure adherence to all government rules applicable on the day. This will require extra monitoring and the co-operation of all those taking part will be appreciated. If the Covid situation changes for the worse, then WHOTT may have to cancel the event at short notice but we hope this will not be the case.

An application form is attached and we invite you to enter again this year so that work can commence on scheduling and time tabling. Without your support we cannot stage what has become a popular date in Dorchester's calendar. Paul Madge looks forward to hearing from you soon.

Many thanks

Robert Crawley
